You know, I try my hardest to bring Christ and God into my childrens lives. Its really not easy at all. For starters m parents and I have very different oppinions of what it means to be Christian. I really think my dad believes that “believing Christ is our saviour” is enough. To me thats not even close to it. You have to love Christ. You have to accept him into your heart. You have to be willing to forgive others. You have to ask forgiveness for your own sins. Most importantly however, you have to love everyone else on this earth. What that means is that you have to treat every last person on this earth in the same manner you would treat Christ himself.
What is my point to all this? Honestly the point is that I can read the bible to my children and I can teach them what the bible says, but I have no idea how to teach my child to love someone they can’t see or can’t hear. My kids are constantly asking me how I know God is real. How do you explain that to a child? How do you explain that he is real because he has touched your heart? Well how did he touch your heart? Thats the question that is truly unanswerable.
I suppose the only thing I can do is hope that upon hearing the gospels in the new testament that they will somehow find their faith and love for God. For me it wasn’t that easy and although I was raised to believe in God and Christ, I never truely loved them. I don’t want my kids to have the same problem.
*sighs*
Anyone have any suggestions or words of wisdom for me?

By being a good Christian example to your kids is what i believe one thing that would draw them near to Christ…

I think the easiest way to teach a child would be to show them an example with something they can actually exercise one of their 5 senses on and understand at any age. Because you can not see something does not mean it is not there. You know that and I know that, but what about the kids right? Next time it’s really windy outside take your children outdoors and stand facing the wind. Ask your kids if they feel it? Now is your opportunity to teach them that it’s kind of like that. You obviously can’t visibily see the wind right infront of your face, but you definitely can feel it. God works in the same way, you may not be able to see him, but when the wind touches an object like a leaf you can see how the wind (God’s power) lifts it (or us) up and has power over everything. Especially when the wind blows hard in the cold winter months. It almost seems to push harder against us than we can push back at times. If the noise of the whipping wind were not there and you were being video taped w/ no sound it would appear as if you were walking up against a force to be reckoned with even though there is nothing to be seen with the human eyes. That’s miraculous and that’s a good example. He created the wind – silent somtimes, invisible, strong and very very real! ** shivers ** God Bless

Unfortunately I don’t think everyone is close to him. My parents raised me to be very christian but it wasn’t until I turned 28 that I believed at all. I just thought everyone was nuts believing something they couldn’t see or touch. I fear my kids go through the same… and don’t end where I have.

Hey you actually helped me! I needed that answer myself the other day, so thank you for getting me thinking! The Lord works in mysterious ways. Everytime I feel the breeze, I say to myself now, Thank you Lord, I know you’re there
